Have a blender on hand?
Great! You'll be able to whip up this simple recipe in no time flat: Berry Good Smoothie!
Naturally loaded with essential vitamins and minerals, smoothies are a super simple way to sneak in extra fruits and veggies, boost your daily protein, carbs and healthy fats too.
And this berry good smoothie doesn't disappoint! It's rich and creamy, loaded with flavorful berries, you can even make it as a shake by adding more ice (or using frozen berries and banana) to enjoy it as a fun Summer treat. Oh my YUM!
Ingredients
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 banana
1/2 C frozen mixed berries
1/3 - 1/2 C unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of choice)
1 tsp. flax oil or chia seeds
Ice to desired thickness if using fresh berries
Directions
Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse on medium high for 3-5 minutes.
Blending Tips - if using a conventional blender stop the blender periodically to stir the mixture with a spoon, this will help ensure all items are being evenly pureed. If using a vitamix or ninja style blender, stop the blender occasionally to remove any excess ingredients from the sides of the pitcher and push them back down to the main blending area to blend well.
A few smoothie tips:
Did you know you can freeze those overripe bananas to use later? When you start to see your bananas start to go a little too brown simply peel and place them in a large ziplock bag and put them in the freezer to use later! They work great for those "oops I am out of bananas!" moments and the versatility of having them on hand will come in quite handy for other recipes too (a clean eats soft serve anyone?)
When berries are in season I often stock up and use them in place of frozen. If you choose to use fresh berries just remember you will need to add a bit of ice (or substitute a fresh with frozen banana) to generate desired thickness.
If increasing the amount of frozen ingredients (berries and banana for example) then you will also need to increase the amount of almond milk (or add a bit of water) to your mix as this will better help you blend your smoothie to drinkable consistency.
Sip and Enjoy!
