Support is pretty much a requirement for getting anything done in life. Period. We can’t ever truly succeed as solo practitioners. We need the collaboration, the cheerleading, and the celebrations with our support crew to accomplish most anything.
Who’s Your Support Crew?
So many of my accomplishments would not have happened without the guidance and support of my grandfather, friends and advisors.
After my parents divorce, my grandfather stepped in as a powerful role model. A businessman himself, he taught me many valuable lessons over the years about work, life and perspective. I can still remember my grandfather calling me out by my full name when I wasn't giving my best, or reminding me to take a step back and assess in order to see the solution, and to lean on my strengths. There have been many times in my entrepreneurial life where I can literally hear my grandfather's voice calling my name from heaven (my own personal Jiminy Cricket), reminding me to pause or take a step back. Usually those are the moments when I’m not being the best version of myself, circling the drain of problems not possibilities.
Maybe it’s when I'm hyper focused on perfection or worried about failure, or maybe it's when I check out on everyone and everything around me, floundering in a state of overwhelm. Thankfully Jiminy Cricket is really good about getting in my head and saying, “Hey, knock it off, you're wasting valuable energy here!”
Without my grandfather's voice reminding me to take a step back, see possibilities, and hone my strengths, well, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Now, I’m not saying that everyone needs a Jiminy Cricket on their shoulder. But we all need somebody.

Maybe it’s a mentor or a coach or a best friend. It could be a co-worker or a boss. Whoever it is, we rely on that person to inspire, encourage, and support us but also, and most importantly, to hold us accountable.
Grab an Accountabilibuddy
Over the years I've heard a lot of great health and wellness tips. Most of the wellness experts, myself included, talk about many of the very same topics. It's hard to find anything original except when the newest and most outlandish diet appears.
Some experts promote a hardcore approach to healthy eating and exercise (no thanks!) while others offer a realistic, balanced and more fun approach (in case you're wondering, that's me!). Either way, we all agree that support is a key ingredient to achieving our health and weight loss goals.
I love this blog post from MyFitnessPal that talks about How to Find an Accountabilibuddy. Where can you find one in your life? Who is in your circle of friends that can help hold your feet to the fire? Think about it, there's probably somebody who would love to help you succeed!
Create Your Support Network
If you’re looking around and you don’t see much of a support network in your social circle, here’s the best advice I could ever give you: Even if you have to hire somebody to be that person, find SOMEONE who will support you in your dreams. Because your success depends on it.
I’m a coach. And guess what? I have a group of coaches, mentors, and business advisers that I pay to not only advise me, but to push me further and harder than I'd ever push myself. Without those people, there is no way that I would have accomplished everything I did in in the past decade.
We achieve more when we have people to help us. Bottom line. There are going to be good times in life and there are going to be bad times, and you need those people around you for all of it. It is the simplest and most effective way to make IT happen. And I believe we're all worth it.
