I love a good smoothie. Why? Because they support my ability to meet my body's nutrient needs in a super efficient and tasty way. Whether it's on a busy on-the-go morning or a mid-day pick me up, I find a nutrient dense smoothie can really do wonders for mind, body and spirit! The great thing about a smoothie is it's also an easy way to sneak in more fruits and veggies (especially for those picky eaters in your home) and this week's smoothie recipe is the perfect companion for helping you get more greens -The Power Greens Smoothie!
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 C fresh organic baby spinach
1/2 apple (use granny smith for added tartness!)
1 slice fresh ginger (or 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. ground)
1 tsp. flax oil (or ground flax seed)
1/2 C unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of choice)
Ice to thickness
A few smoothie tips:
Did you know you can freeze those overripe bananas to use later? When you start to see your bananas start to go a little too brown simply peel and place them in a large ziplock bag and put them in the freezer to use later! They work great for those “oops I am out of bananas!” moments and the versatility of having them on hand will come in quite handy for other recipes too (a clean eats soft serve anyone?)
If increasing the amount of frozen ingredients (berries and banana for example) then you will also need to increase the amount of almond milk (or add a bit of water) to your mix as this will better help you blend your smoothie to drinkable consistency.
Drink and Enjoy!
